Dr. Kate McDonough
Natural Healing Center

I began my career in the health care field as a nurse in 1978, and I worked for many years within the "traditional" health care arena. My thinking about the accepted way of treating health issues underwent a radical change when I became aware that the health issues I was having were a result of my life style. I suffered from severe sinus headaches daily and was an expert at self medicating and familiar with every sinus medication at the pharmacy. I also was constantly fatigued and so exhausted that I had to sit down and rest while trying to do my hair or put my make up on. I suffered from debilitating anxiety that was evolving into depression and agoraphobia. I was lucky enough to stumble into a therapist's office who had been studying the link between food allergies and mood and behavior for over 20 years. I discovered that I had food allergies, mainly to sugar and wheat which were my favorite foods and which I consumed every chance I could. Once I removed these items from my diet I felt like a different person. No more headaches, the fatigue was gone and so was the anxiety. These dramatic changes made me start to really question traditional medical treatment and mainstream health care.

The more I learned about forms of healing that worked with the wisdom of the body the more difficult it became for me to work as a nurse in the hospital. I no longer believed that I was doing the best I could for the patients I was caring for. Around the same time I started seeing a chiropractor for injuries I had sustained in a car accident. Chiropractic made sense to me. The concept of removing interference so that the body could do what it needed to do to heal had the ring of truth. I decided to change fields and to throw myself 100% into my new passion. That was 20 years ago and there is not a day that I have regretted my decision.

I opened my first practice in New Mexico where I was for seven years, and I have been in Marshfield/Hanover since 2000. I treat from the very young (a month old) to the very old (98). My greatest joy is to see my patients get well and I am privileged to see that daily!
